Dinner with Gatsby - Trailer

Work In Progress Theatre and GKT Musical Theatre present Dinner With Gatsby “I think that those people harm themselves and society...” “marriage can only be between a man and woman, I shall not surrender my principles…” “Something must be found, first, to restore women's desire to be married…” When F. Scott Fitzgerald put pen to paper on his novel The Great Gatsby in 1924, the role of a woman was to concern herself with home, children, and religion. Her husband took care of business and politics, and every child was raised by a mother and a father, with clearly defined roles. Surely as a society we’re more forward thinking 100 years on? Pull up a chair as Dinner With Gatsby transports you into an era of opulence, rebellion, and unforgettable entertainment. Old money meets new, old-fashioned values are thrown out the window, and the exhilarating spirit of decadent parties, secret speakeasies, and pulsating jazz music take over. But throughout all this, just who is this elusive Gatsby? What is it that makes him so revered across New York? Can unrequited love overcome society’s heteronormative expectations? And what sins does money conceal for these American socialites? And the quotes? They’re all from current politicians. We’ll let you decide for yourself whether society has changed. --- Cast: Charlotte Flynn - Nick Carraway Georgia McNeill - Daisy Buchanan Rheanna Arbon- Jay Gatsby Madeleine English - Jordan Baker Mariam Can - Myrtle Wilson Sendhilen Ramen - Tom Buchanan Creative Team: Erica Hartley - Writer/Director Rohan Godfrey - Musical Director Maria Hallows - Musical Director Benjamin Jolley - Assistant Director David Sheldon - Assistant Director/Choreographer AJ Gardner - Fight Coordinator Sabrina Dieu - Producer Joshua Clayton - Executive Producer Band: Rohan Godfrey - Keyboard (Conductor) David Chen - Bass guitar Ansel Bayly - Drum kit Adrienne Wilson - Alto saxophone Technical Team: Sabrina Dieu - Production Stage Manager Clement Li - Sound Operator Lantukh - Light Designer/Operator Jake Perkin - Light Designer/Operator Sarah Chen - Set & Props Manager Jasmine Newton-Rae - Wardrobe & Practical Effects Master Rheanna Arbon - Assistant costume and prop manager Yifei Fang - Stage Hand David Sheldon - Stage Hand Benjamin Jolley - Stage Hand Isha Bah - Stage Hand Ellen Page - Stage Hand Video Production by Agate Media - www.agatemedia.co.uk

Introducing our Dinner With Gatsby Crowdfunder

Find out more: www.workinprogresstheatre.com Donate here: www.bit.do/dinnerwithgatsby Hi, We're Work In Progress Theatre, a vibrant and exciting theatre company led by young creatives. Developing new shows with an important message, we aim to create musical theatre which excites, interests, and challenges our audiences, inspiring them to take action on important global issues. We're currently developing three exciting new musicals, which we’ve recently had the opportunity to perform across the UK, and we were fortunate enough to be able share these in The Theatre Cafe on London's West End in April. Our latest production, Dinner With Gatsby is a brand new 90-minute show which retells the classic novel The Great Gatsby from a new perspective, focussing on the struggles felt by those assigned female at birth and those identifying as LGBTQ+. This is a one-act musical where we see the events from the book and more unfold at a dinner party for Nick’s birthday, performed by a cast of 7 with a live jazz band accompaniment. We are crowdfunding for the research and development of this show and the staging of our first performances. The show is currently being written with the first draft due to be completed in August, and in September we’ll begin a 4 month workshop period with our cast. In January we’ll then begin rehearsals for the finished version of the show, which we’ll be performing in North Wales in February. Subject to funding, we then hope to continue performing this show all across the UK, spreading it’s important messages. In exchange for supporting us, you’ll have access to a wide variety of rewards associated with this production, including signed programmes and posters, free tickets, Q&As with the cast, and exclusive access to workshops, dress rehearsals, and more. Your support is invaluable as we work to produce this show. If you’d like to find out more, please visit our website and we’d be happy to answer any questions.
